Lowering Tuition Pimentel February 16th, 2020 5:00pm I believe paying for tuition is good, although I do believe that if we are paying for tuition that it should be lowered. In recent years tuition has been raised by about 3 - 4%. The reason that tuition has been raised is for an increase in financial aid, demand surge, a need for more faculty and being able to pay them, a lack of funding from the provincial government, and for increasing student services.  If students had to focus less on working to afford school, they could concentrate on graduating with proper education to get a higher paying job. Students are stressing more about finances these days than an actual test. But lowering the fees will make grants, tax credits and loans downsize, which means poorer students will be more likely to pay for more university/college. Palliser is a local radio co-host for 107.3 Virgin radio in Victoria, BC. He began his career in school at Camosun College when he noticed a poster for the Applied Communications Program from 2001 to 2003, which he applied for and loved it, but definitely wished he paid more attention in class. When he finished his program he got an opportunity at a radio station in Fort McMurray, Alberta for radio stations there spending about seven years there freelancing and being a radio announcer. Palliser moved to Vancouver, BC after a job opening was available at the Beat 94.5, he noted that he emailed and made connections with them in the previous two years before the opportunity was even available. Bike Lanes Athena Pimentel January 30th, 2020 3:00 pm PST Victoria’s Bike lines system has been planned for expansion at the beginning of 2020. The expansions paths will be in these five areas, the northern end of Government Street, Kings Road, Haultain Street, Kimta Road, and Richardson Street. The designs of the bike lanes were sent out for the public to see and have input by commenting on what they think about what should be changed or what worked well. The designs claim that the bike lanes would have shared roadways, with shared-line markings in the middle of the road, as well as parallel parking on either side of the road. They explain that they could include traffic calming options, such as a median divider, including a traffic circle, curb extensions or a speed bump. An alternate decision could have been for painted bike lanes by the Johnson Street bridge, but if this were to happen the speed limit for vehicles would have to go down to 30 km per hour. Camosun’s Media January 23rd, 2020 Athena Pimentel I don’t usually pay attention to any news reports in the newspaper as I never have the attention span to sit down and read the newspaper. I rarely hear the radio as I always attach my phone to the aux cord in my car for music as soon as I go in the car, which causes the radio to never turn on. I occasionally find myself watching any news reports on TV when my parents have left the news on in the background while we are eating dinner. I normally find myself looking at news reports when they pop up on the screen of the social media apps on my phone or laptop. They sometimes are advertisements in between youtube videos, just trending tweets on twitter on the news subject, or posts on social media such as Instagram were posts are promoted for more viewers to see such as the news. NEWS RELEASE January 16 th , 2020 200 Employees Get Back To Work The National Widget Company announcing the re-hiring of the 200 employees over entire company who were previously laid off six months ago. 50 of these employees work at the head office and main plant in Victoria BC. Andrew Bryce explained, “We have sent recall notices to all employees who were laid off in June. As a family-owned company, it was heartbreaking to lay off so many loyal people, so we are thrilled to be offering employment to people we consider part of the family.” The employees will be called as needed over the next few weeks.
